Folders of quality and distinction

Published: 13-Sep-2011

Corporate folders with a dark blue, full bleed solid on the outer pages and graduated vignettes merging on the inside. A print job requiring thought and vision during design, along with skill, experience and patience in it’s production.

Ticking the boxes for design

The design of a successful corporate folder requires a delicate balancing act. Enough branding to be instantly recognizable, but tempered with subtlety so as not to be garish or intrusive. A design that reflects the brand now and over the expected lifespan of the item, along with a special something that sets it apart from the rest and creates a lasting impression.
To achieve these aims we chose to use a simple full bleed dark blue solid of the client’s corporate colour with white reversing type, coupled with a section of the logo increased dramatically in scale and imaged on the sheet through the use of a bold spot UV varnish, applied on top of a silky matt laminate. The end result is mix of subtle but strong graphic imagery that instantly identifies the client, reinforces the brand and provides a strong and lasting capacity enclosure for wide a range of printed materials.

As well as print

Quality, modern litho printing presses coupled with the skill and dedication of an experienced production team are required to successfully print a folder of this nature and it is of paramount importance that the solid colour be uniform and even, not only across the individual printed sheet but also throughout the run. The sheet must be handled with great care to prevent marking or contamination before the ink is fully dry and the stack can be moved on to the finishing stages. The printer must accurately gauge the degree to which the colour will alter as the ink dries and how any further finishing processes will impact upon the end result.

Not forgetting the finishing

The folders were matt laminated throughout and spot UV varnished on the outside before being precisely cut and creased to the correct size and shape, prior to the final stages of hand assembly and packing. These processes once again require skill and experience, with the sheet becoming more valuable as it moves through each stage of production, any of which have the potential to ruin the job if not executed with care and precision.

The end result of all this effort we are pleased to say is an impressive folder for our design portfolio and a happy client, confidently using a quality printed product.
