Marathon Diary 2 - Days to go - 71

Published: 10-Feb-2012

Back aches, snow and slow on the fundraising front - Not an easy couple of weeks quite honestly. Felt very inspired having met the experts in London on Saturday but the snow that night meant Sunday's long run had to be cancelled, a bit whimpy I know but slipping on an icy pavement could potentially set me back months so I had a sneaky lie in instead and a long walk in the woods with the dog later to try and make up for it.
Still a long way to go - run fat boy run!

Febuary - Week 1

  • Fundraising to date: £556.20 (Target - £2000.00 - please donate if you can )
  • February week 1 training: 3 x runs, 5 + 5 + 6 = 16 miles total (1980 calories burned - allegedly)
  • Longest run: 6 miles - 54 minutes (Not enough!)
  • Condition: Should be feeling better than I do after a light week. Lower back problem (bulging/herniated disc) returned to haunt me. Need to include some core strength training to help I think.

Been at this for four plus months now and overall it's going very well, although 26.2 miles still seems an awfully long way to run without stopping. I've moved onto a BUPA intermediate marathon plan for the last ten weeks which includes a 15, 18 and 22 mile run. Hopefully the 26.2 won't seem quite so daunting having completed them and everyone tells me that on the day the crowds really help to give you the lift you need for the final 6 miles. It was great to listen to the experts and meet the NSPCC reps in London on Saturday and I left armed with lots of Team GO fundraising materials, Lucozade energy drinks and gels and a head full of good advice and inspirational stories to help me renew my efforts so it's upwards on onwards - please help if you can...

Go on - spare a bit for Team GO!
