Marathon Diary 1 - Days to go - 88

Published: 24-Jan-2012

In a moment of madness last October I dared myself to try and get fitter, do something worthwhile for a good charity and deflate my rapidly growing abdominal spare tyre, all in one go by signing up for the 2012 Virgin London Marathon - gulp. To date I've racked up about 350 miles of running, raised just over £500.00 for the NSPCC and lost nearly 18 pounds of unwanted middle aged spread.
OK but still a long way to go - Run fat boy run!

January - Week 3

  • Fundraising to date: £516.20 (Target - £2000.00 - please donate if you can )
  • January week 3 training: 4 x runs, 7 + 7 + 8 + 16 = 38 miles total (phew)
  • Longest run: 16 miles - 2 hours 44 minutes (1869 calories burned - allegedly)
  • Condition: Felt like I'd been run over by Sunday midday, but loved my armchair and a glass of Shiraz in the afternoon.

Slowly getting used to longer distances now and having my daughter join me on the week night training runs is great for moral, many thanks Darcey. Sunday morning's long run was a 5.5 mile circuit from Tunbridge Wells to Langton Green x 3 (now called the Groundhog run) and the last time round was pretty frickin hard. Can't imagine doing 4 or 5 circuits yet but there's a guy in the US who runs 30 miles every night so I guess the human body can make amazing adaptations given enough time and willpower. Gone down 2 holes on my favorite belt now too, wonder if I'll make 3?

Go on - spare a bit for Team GO!
